Traumatic Brain Injury, speed of hospitalization, and subsequent morbidity and mortality rates

Despite numerous procedures and protocols for the emergency handling, transportation and treatment of traumatic brain injuries, there is still a large discrepancy in the survival rates of these cases. As both rural and urban areas have different dynamics in terms of emergency services and hospital facilities, the causal relationships between the handling of trauma cases and the ultimate outcomes will be likely situational, economic as well as regional. A systemic review will be performed to assess the current status of handling traumatic brain injuries using PUBMED and any other relevant source. The subsequent data will be analyzed in order to determine the causes of mortality and morbidity, taking into account variables such as local economic income, hospital resources, regional income, regional ethnic distribution as well as other parameters. Hopefully the outcome of this paper will provide emergency medical care providers and hospitals better understanding of areas of focus that require improvement.
